The Amazing Disappearing Comps!

I've deleted a bunch of the comps from the catalog page.

Why? Well, I get the feeling a lot of this material has been re-issued, from better sources, in the past year or so. I hope to keep adding to my own goof-ball series, though, so watch for more Budget A-Go-Go and Not The Beatles volumes.

Meanwhile, check out the two new volumes in the "NOT THE BEATLES" series.

FINALLY - A COUPLE NEW COMPS!

A scant year after unleasing the first volume, we now offer BUDGET A-GO-GO - VOLUME TWO! Sorry, folks, but I just can't seem to get enough of these vintage 'sixties knock-offs.

Speaking of second volumes, check out SIXTIES SOUNDTRACKS. Here are more tunes lifted from obscure film and television soundtracks, a la SIXTIES BEAT LIVE!, only not all tracks are "live" performances.

Check it out in our catalog section!

AUGUST, 2002

Ready for more vintage schlock?

Yet another Beatlemania-era budget curio has surfaced. THAT MERSEY SOUND! was released by ELKAY RECORDS, who boast, "after listening to the many Mersey Sound groups playing about Loundon, [we] selected THE SPARROWS as the best of the Sound and the Beat heard nightly from the Mersey to the Thames."

Usually such cash-in albums contain only a couple actualy Beatles tunes with the rest comprised of filler. Interestingly, The Sparrows bring us a total of twelve vinatge MerseyBeat covers; eight by Lennon-McCartney and four by Mitch Murray! Furthermore, an effort was made to cop the arrangements used by not only The Beatles, but Gerry & The Pacemakers, Billy J. Kramer & The Dakotas, Freddy & The Dreamers as well as The Rolling Stones!

Two "bonus tracks" are supplied by The Liverpool Kids (a/k/a The Four Moptops, The Schoolboys) who warble yet another version of "She Loves You" along with an inept re-write of "I Want To Hold Your Hand!"

Four New titles added this month!

I hate to admit it, but I have a perverse fascination with those schlocky budget albums that came out purporting to be the "sounds of today's top hits" but in reality were "the sounds of today's biggest swindlers cashing in on the youth market." There were lots of BEATLES-RELATED ripoffs from non-groups like THE BUGGS, THE WEASELS, THE BEAGLES, THE MANCHESTERS et al. There were also other catch all LPs issued with titles like "16 TOP HITS OF THE WEEK" and "LONDON A-GO-GO" relased on labels like CARNABY, DESIGN, DIPLOMAT, AWARD, HIT, ROYALE and TOP to name but a few. Check out BUDGET A-GO-GO for a new comp with a bunch of poverty-row 60s rip-offs!
